UMLifeOptions
UMLifeOptions plans provide long-term disability (LTD) and life insurance coverage to eligible United Methodist clergy and lay employees. The plans are insured by Unum, one of the leading underwriters of LTD and life insurance benefits.
Three individual plans make up the UMLifeOptions collection of offerings. Each is distinct because of the type of coverage included and who is eligible to participate. Below are brief descriptions of the UMLifeOptions plans along with links to in-depth information for each one.
Plan 1: Lay LTD and Life Insurance Plan
This plan provides LTD and life insurance coverage to a plan sponsor's eligible active lay employees and certain eligible clergy who are not eligible to participate in the Comprehensive Protection Plan (CPP). Employees must be active to be eligible for LTD coverage, while both active and retired employees may qualify for life insurance benefits. Plan sponsors elect and pay for the coverage.

Plan 2: Clergy Supplemental Life Insurance Plan
The Clergy Supplemental Life Insurance Plan provides life insurance coverage for eligible active and retired clergy of a plan sponsor. This coverage is in addition to benefits clergy may receive through CPP. Plan sponsors elect and pay for the coverage.

Plan 3: Optional Life Insurance Plan
The Optional Life Insurance Plan provides eligible participants of a plan sponsor with the opportunity to purchase life insurance for themselves, their spouse and dependent children. This insurance would be in addition to life insurance coverage the participant receives through the Lay LTD and Life Insurance Plan, CPP and the Clergy Supplemental Life Insurance Plan.
Only actively appointed participants (or actively working lay employees) are eligible to enroll in the Optional Life Insurance Plan. If you belong to a conference, your plan sponsor chooses whether or not to offer this option. Eligible clergy and lay employees pay for the coverage they elect.
